On the evening of August 6, President Prabowo Subianto boarded the Whoosh high-speed train at Halim Station and reached Bandung in 45 minutes. His destination was the ITB Ganesha Cultural Center at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). There, he delivered the keynote speech of the 2025 Indonesia Science, Technology and Industry Conference and witnessed the birth of several national-level science and technology cooperations: DaTongLongYuan, PLN EPI and ITB-LAPI formally signed a biomass co-firing Memorandum of Understanding.

August 7, Jakarta—at the headquarters of PT PLN (Persero), a landmark signing ceremony was held. DaTongLongYuan, PLN’s energy-investment flagship PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia Investasi (“PLN EPI”), and the wholly-owned technology-consulting arm of Bandung Institute of Technology, PT LAPI ITB, jointly signed the “Biomass Co-firing Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding.” This marks Indonesia’s first high-level synergy of “state-owned enterprise + technology enterprise + research institute” in the national key decarbonization technology of biomass co-firing.

From “burning coal” to “burning biomass,” the change of one word embodies Indonesia’s ambition to leap toward a greener, lower-carbon energy structure. This is not a simple fuel substitution but an energy revolution jointly driven by national research institutes, leading enterprises and international capital. When palm kernel shells, rice husks and wood chips—once agricultural and forestry wastes—become the green flames leaping inside boilers, Indonesia moves one step closer to its grand goal of net-zero emissions by 2060.
